This Old Town

This Old Town
A City built at the mouth of a river
Blackened hills form the backdrop forever
Cold and dark
They make their remark
Men of steel hammer and fist
Working hard silhouettes in the mist
In this old town
Hearts keep on burning
In this old town
Wheels keep on turning
We'll never give in
We'll never retreat
We'd rather die with our boots on our feet
In this old town
Shovel in one hand pint in the other
Living each day Father child and Mother
Amidst the turmoil
Standing on this hallowed soil
Blood and sweat their only vocation
Trouble and strife in this part baked Nation
Devil take your cursed slander
Cos you know nothing of our splendid candour
Silence those lips that rush to criticise
Cos you never had to fight to win the prize
Of this old town
Standing on the esteem of so many others
The broken backs of our Fathers and Mothers
All under God's hand
In this promised land
No surrender still our war cry
They respond in kind "We can't wait til you die"

Something Better Than This
Well I kick it to the kerb
Scroll down the flip chart
My engines stopped running
I've ground to a halt
I'm in need of a new direction
Time to fuel up
Take a deep breath
Drink from another cup
Cos I roll with the punches keep moving up ahead
Got to make it on time and not be delayed
I'm aiming for the bulls eye better not miss
Cos there's gotta be something better than this
Well I been a lost cause be a train wreck
I've been knocked down been flat on my back
I need to dust myself down and stand up straight
Look to the horizon take hold of my own fate
Well I've had my trials my tribulations too
Had empty pockets and had to make do
I tore down walls and kicked up the dirt
Negative to positive it's time to convert

When It's Gone
03:01
|
|||
When It's Gone, It's Gone
Woke up with the deepest longing
Realised this heart was still in mourning
The love I had was now all gone
Slipped through my hands as I tried to hold on
When it's gone it's gone
Sitting alone with the curtains drawn
Cried all the tears that anyone could cry
Pierced by the arrow of your goodbye
Can't live another day like this
Hankering for the things I dearly miss
I'm troubled by what might have been
My eyes can't forget what they've seen
Hear that long whistle blowing
As my love rolls down the track
Feel the space between us growing
Knowing that there's no way back
When it's gone it's gone

Is It Too Late?
03:47
|
|||
Night rolls back daylight breaking through
Thoughts come flooding back of a lost virtue
How I broke the promises that I made
All those days from then to now I wish I could trade
And to your memory I light another candle
Shed a tear for all the guilt I can't handle
Is it too late to say I'm sorry
Get down on bended knee
To quench the fire of your fury
Draw us back to you and me
Why do we never appreciate what we have
Always doubt our gut feeling chose the wrong path
Loves winding road so many fall by the way
Temptation takes the hand of the fool and leads them astray.
I won't beg because I love you too much to do it
I won't make you cry another tear and I'll prove it
Another chance is it too much that I'm asking
Has that moment come and gone our we past it

Revenge
04:24
|
|||
Down by the Rio Grande
That's were I'll make my stand today, today
My enemy surrounded me
Gives no opportunity
To get away, away
Then I here your voice calling out
I turn around to see but your words fade out
How they shot you down, my lover fallin' to the ground
I cried, I cried
Held you bleeding in my arms
Underneath the shaded Palms
You died, you died
Then I swore I'd exact my revenge
As God's my witness I will avenge
As they close the net
I will never 'er forget
Your smile, your smile
Your beauty was without compare
Every man couldn't help but stare
A while. a while
Wait on me I'll be there soon
I see you standing on the shore
The clocks hand strikes noon
We'll be together forever more
A world without you
I hoped I would never know
But here I am, I am
No more fear of death
Offer up my final breath
I've made my stand, my stand

Moonlight Serenade
02:33
|
|||
Underneath the window off my one true love
I sing her a sweet melody
In the hope she would fall madly in love
With a helpless romantic like me
How I sing to her sweetly of my love
Tell her how I would love her to my end
If she would only cast me a token from above
Recognising the pledge that I've made
In this moonlight serenade.
Let the angels carry my words on the wing
Let them fall softly on thine ear
Let them whisper how pure a love I have
For the one who holds them so dear

Let Me Fly
03:04
|
|||
Life's been kind of a drag
Lately I just can't breathe
My heart's beginning to sag
Wondering what the hell's wrong with me
Let me fly
My wheels will never touch down
Let me fly
30,000 feet above the ground
Let me fly
Way up high
Like a bird in a cage
My reflection for company
Sends me into a rage
These bars that restrain me
Let me fly
Spread my wings and fly around
My feet will never touch the ground
I'm not coming back down.

Waiting All My Life
03:56
|
|||
Well I never could see
How any one could be that patient
Cos when you want something so bad
You've just gotta have it now
But when the world closes in seems no way out
When fear takes over and casts a shadow of doubt
Just hold on cos there's something coming over the hill
I've been waiting all my life
Waiting for you to arrive
Waiting for the sun to shine down on me
I've been waiting all my life
Waiting for you to revive
Waiting for the one who can set me free
Well I never understand
What makes a man doubt in what he believes
Cos without faith
How does he carry on
But when there seems no path ahead
Carry your burden feeling half dead
Just hold on cos there's something coming over the hill
Well nothing can shake you from your resolve
Pushing through knuckle down problem solved
Though some things linger on
Can't wait til there gone
In the morning light every thing seems more clear

Love Will Find A Way
03:12
|
|||
Draw a pale of water from your well
It's not hard to tell
Your well has run dry
Without the moon and stars up above
Embrace the darkness that you love
But it only makes you cry
So tumble down the mountain of your soul
Everything that's dear you want to hold
Cast out into the deep before you fall fast asleep
Love will find a way.
Let no-one rob you of your crown
Bring your spirit down
Drain your pool of dreams
You've fought the darkness on your own
Found your way home
With a faith that redeems

Well hello how you doing
How long has it been
You're looking well life been treating you kind
So it would seem
Must be 10 years or more
Since we last met
We had a few beers and some laughs I could never forget
But life has its way and we wish we could stay in the moment
Though you try to hold on the years are gone the sun has set
So when the curtain comes down
Walk away with no regret.
Years go by
The faster they fly
Wonder where they all went
Joy and despair, Vanity flows through the air
So easy to forget
Story of our lives, compare and prise
Who finished first
But its all vanity, so easy to see
We still have a raging thirst

At Midnight
03:40
|
|||
Light fades to darkness as the sun goes down
Still and quietness are the only sound
Stars come out to play in the black velvet sky
The moon casts its light waving the long day goodbye
Clock strikes the hour
Midnight rings out
Night becomes day
Yet darkness walks about
Some become restless and some are at peace
Some are at war and some make war cease
Hearts beating faster others mark time
Some go running while others stand in line
Emotions take flight
Converging at midnight
The day has enough trouble of its own
Can you leave it there or bring troubles home
The peaceful the restless both lay down to sleep
Pray the Lord their soul to keep
